Have you ever seen the modular compact capsule house that resembles alien spacecrafts landing on Earth? Well, South Korean architectural firm Yoon Space Design have set up these eight futuristic beach abodes at Yangyang-gun, Gangwon-do province of South Korea.
Known as "Albang," the lightweight opoid structures where custom made from expanded polystyrene (EPS) blocks thereby making it easier to transport from different seaside locations and conveniently stabilized by small podium mounts. Often used as packaging material, these foam-like EPS blocks were carved manually rather than molded to shape so that it will give the surface a much textured finish. These were specifically chosen by the design architect not only for its light weigh and low cost but for its resilience from the harsh seaside conditions.
Who doesn't love the curves? In an egg-shaped structure, it's all about the curves. The curved hatches open upwards from the side of each white cubicle supported on long metal hinges.
In order to bring the natural light in, small domed windows with colored frames were used so that you will see at a very wide angle. The porthole windows open outwards to let the cool sea breeze in. At night, the protruding glass circles glow like beacons from the light within.
