Tiny House Living in the 'New Normal'

The coronavirus pandemic has changed the way people live as millions got infected with thousands of people losing their lives in the process. In response to this viral menace, governments have done drastic and even draconian measures to prevent it from getting more people infected and reduce the death toll. As the search for the cure and vaccine continues, social distancing, quarantine, and personal isolation has to be enforced in order the flatten the curve. But what does it leave for those living the tiny house lifestyle?

Living in a very limited space doesn't necessarily defeat the purpose of social distancing if you think about creative ways of adhering to this new adjustment. Of course, there is always the inconvenience as your partner or fellow tiny-house dweller will be staying more at home for virtual work. Any change to your routine will disrupt the whole flow on how you manage all activities inside your tiny house. To be perfectly clear, social distancing may not apply on some tiny house lifestyles. If it does, here are some ideas you need to consider:

Use a Temporary Separator

Since space is a premium, you can utilize curtains and other removable wall dividers to provide the necessary separation of space for your home office and the rest of the house. However if you happen to work together, you may have to do a workable schedule with your housemate as to who can work in the living room and the other on a smaller space in the house. You will be lucky if you have another upper deck space inside.

Maximize Your Outdoor Space

Your personal space extends outside the confines of your tiny house so it would be a great idea to utilize your outside space by having a living and dining space. All you have to do is set up a retractable roof and have comfortable sitting area where you can eat, entertain guests, and even work. If you happen to have a rooftop deck then you can probably hang out there too!

Sound-proof the Deck

If you happen to have an upper deck and extra space, you may consider sound-proofing it with acoustic foams so that you can webcasts and conference calls without the unwanted noise inside the house.

Disinfectant Mist Shower

Another important element in your 'new normal' house is setting up a disinfectant mist shower that can be installed outside your door so before you enter the house, you can just push a button and you'll get showered disinfectant mist that will hopefully kill the virus that would enter your house.

Install Exhaust Fan

You probably need to have an exhaust fan in order to circulate the air properly and get rid of all exhaled air from everyone inside the house. This way, it will help you mitigate the likely chance of contracting the virus.

Go Off-Grid

If you happen to own a mobile home that has the capabilities to sustain you off-the-grid then you might consider moving far away from the nearest urban center and live as far as any other people. That way, you can physically distance from other people while also ensuring that you and your family won't get infected.

Live Sustainably

As most businesses close including restaurants and some groceries, convenience stores, and fast food, you may want to start your own garden and plant all the essential vegetables, spices, and even fruits. You may want to rear farm animals like chicken or pig so that you will have something to get food from.

Do take note that the guidelines on social distancing, which have become a regular part of daily life and stay-at-home orders, do vary depending on where you live. But definitely, tiny house living in the 'new normal' has made most of us rethink where home will be for the foreseeable future.
