Skysphere: A High-Tech Solar-Powered Man Cave

Kiwi engineer Jono Williams has designed and built the solar-powered Skysphere in his spare time after dreaming up the idea over a beer with friends. Located in Linton, Palmerston North, this solar-powered retreat has all the latest and energy-saving technologies that can be controlled by its own mobile app. The color of the LED lights can be changed and it has its own voice-operated beer dispenser.

Interestingly, Williams has initially wanted to build a tree house be changed his mind so that we went for a more robust design. The Skysphere is built on a 10-meter steel column with a 360-degree panoramic window system that is reinforced by circular support on eight sides. Due to its remarkable design, more design work and careful engineering went into the building of the tower that included the custom-installed polycarbonate windows and the development of a unique floor gas heating system to keep the space warm and cozy.

A man cave is not complete without beer so Williams installed a refrigerated, in-couch beer dispenser that can hold 12 beers in the dispenser and cool an additional 36 beers. The temperature inside can  be maintained to keep it cool if its hot in the outside and vice versa. Everything you need in a bachelor pad is well taken cared, high-speed Internet, projector screen, and even a stargazing platform. It also include voice-controlled colored LED lighting, fingerprint locks, motorized doors and a wireless sound system. Total cost in building the Skysphere is $50,000 for over 3,000 of man hours building it.
