Nashville couple Emily and Sloane Southard have tiny treehouse retreat built as a way to renovate their old backyard treehouse. Named after a Wendell Berry poem, "The Fox House" has a lovely country cottage feel. Despite a long and complicated built, their window-restoration business helped them complete the project with their good selection of old windows. Although originally envisioned as a guest room, they have transformed it more than just a kids' fantasy hideout but a well-thought space with ample natural lighting, fresh evening breezes and a lovely view.
The living room has a vintage 1950s-era sofa with an antique-looking trunk as a coffee table. Since it already has natural light from the re-purposed glass windows, it has flashlight style lamp perfect for that subtle ambient glow. There are no hidden storage as they went for open shelving with 10-inch wood slabs for that rustic charm.
The Southards have managed to squeeze in an office space that is decorated with the plants and flowers they plucked from their garden. It has nice oak secretary where you can write a novel or have a good read. Emily's own creative touch adds a more personal aesthetic into the interior with her watercolor artwork of flora and fauna into this serene backyard retreat.
Due to limited space, the sleeping space is built around a full-sized iron bed that was taken from their main house's guest room. The pillows are made from bark cloth that is a perfect compliment to this treehouse.
