Who would have thought that a dark and dingy garage can be transformed into a lovely tiny home in just six months? Well, stylist Rebekah Carey did just that by transforming a 1905 garage into a 200-square-foot cozy, warm tiny house for her family in order to be closer to her grandmother. In order to cut down the cost, she and her husband have scoured their hometown for reclaimed materials and other free giveaways on Craigslist. With just $2,000, the made the glorious transformation into a reality!
The conversion began with the installation of new insulation, sidings, doors, ceiling panels and flooring with most of the materials used were found free online. Some of the salvaged flooring needed more care but it has its unique character that makes it a perfect element.
To make it more appealing despite its small footprint, they make it look like a scaled-down version of a classic farmhouse complete with the rustic beans and all the bright accouterments. Since they are converting a garage into a home, keeping the walls and ceilings white is the key to make it look big and airy. The vertical lines of the sidings will make an illusion that the space is elongated.
In order to accentuate the space, various hues and materials were incorporated to make it cozy. Smart storage spaces were added in order to hide clutter. As white is the color of the interior, color plays an important role in making the interior look interesting and not bland and sterile.
