Modern Bahay Kubo Guesthouse in Camiguin, Philippines

Although Filipino houses vary from region to region, bahay kubo is a traditional house design common in the Philippines. There is a unique vacation guesthouse found in a small island off northern Mindanao called the Bahay Bakasyunan sa Camiguin, which literally means "guest house in Camiguin," that features a unique modern take on the traditional house by incorporating the usual bamboo, nipa and other indigenous building materials with that of Western elements like stone, glass and steel.

In a hot tropical climate, the bamboo grills allow natural ventilation so that air can go in and out thereby dissipating heat and letting the cool breeze from the sea in. The lush greenery and trees give the surrounding a much needed shade thereby minimizing surface temperature to a much more bearable level.

You will impressed by its beauty and its quaintness as the materials used in the lobby are all locally sourced especially the coconut husk. The ceiling is eye catching as it utilize the natural round end of the bamboo to create that mesmerizing effect as if you're in a different place. The architecture is a mix of both traditional and modern designs but the materials used are still mostly wood and bamboo.
