Shipping Containers as Smart, Modular Tiny Homes

Who would have thought that rusty, grimy and unused shipping containers can be transformed into smart, modular tiny houses that prospective homeowners would drool upon. Although a difficult and challenging to undertake, using them is actually cost effective if you know what to do with it.

Designed by Nova Deko Modular Home Solutions, their tiny one-bedroom models are composed of a single container that is popularly known as 'granny flats.' You can just plop it on your own backyard if you want to add an additional guest house to your existing property. It's not what we typically envision a container home - cramped, dark and cold. This home has a dual-purpose living space that also doubles as a bedroom and large glass doors that bring the outside natural light in.

The design firm also has another model, a 40-foot shipping container that has a wooden terrace structure that adds extra living space thereby giving it a more dynamic exterior. Another model has a container stacked on top of the other in a perpendicular arrangement to make use of the roof space and create a sheltered overhang below.
