Gypsy Microhouse Caravan

It looks like part of a Gypsy caravan, this microhouse cost Rachel Ross less than $8,000 to build through a combination of traditional building techniques and the ingenious marriage of recycled and brand-new materials.  This quaint home is also a writer's retreat. If you're not inspired living in a home like this, I don't know what will.

Known as vardo, the long caravan has a unique curve in the roof and the eyebrow entrance since the roofing material is made from flexible metal sheeting. It has a raised ridge vent and two 3’ x 4’ raised Lexan curved skylights. The exterior shingles cost nothing but elbow grease and an artist’s eye as the shingles are sourced from spruce guitar top ‘seconds’, halved and split with a hatchet. The curves on the inside of the dwelling are covered with stretched canvas, firmly stapled in place and painted with white wash. The wagon is fully wired and has an RV plug outside for connecting it to a power source.
